Can you suggest to those of us in the states, why Blackley is so unreliable filling orders? ..... ...

Sorry, no idea about Blackley's order processing. That's something you'd have to take up with them; I have no affiliation with them, but was aware that they advertise Whitworth parts.

Thanks for the P-H info. I met Bucky a couple of times at international shoots. He was Sec. Gen. of the MLAIC for a while.

Is Pedersoli the only current barrel maker for Whitworth rifling? I read there was a private gunsmith in England (I'm not referring to Parker Hale) who made Whitworth barrels, but that was close to two decades ago.

Not at this time. I just want to make a simple 2nd quality type without the scope. (I don't have a range near me that is suitable for long distance target shooting)

Did the 2nd quality rifles come with blued or color case hardened barrel bands?

I just looked through the thousands of photographs I have of Military Match Whitworth rifles and I can say that I didn't see one that had the barrel bands that appeared to be casehardened. The Confederate 2 band Whitworth rifles photos I have are of 7 Confederate 2 band rifles. There were none that showed casehardening on the barrel bands, and that is because of the battle field conditions they operated in and the original finishes are long gone. The 2nd Quality engraving on the triggerguard refers to the finish of the Confederate Whitworth. That's why I don't think they were casehardened, but were blue finished like the standard 1853 Enfield rifle.

Some of the military match rifles I viewed are in pristine condition with highly polished barrel bands and all were blued finish. Hope this helps you in your quest to replicate an original Confederate 2 band Whitworth rifle. This is quite a quest you've taken on and I hope you are successful.

Thank you! I suspected that they were blued. I was able to make a special order for a barrel, so the hardest thing to source has been taken care of.
