Welcome from AZ. I have many times passed between Socorro and Magdelena where my pop tells me a civil war battle occurred.

I'm located about 25 miles north of Socorro at a wide spot in the road called Bernardo then west up the Rio Perco valley. There's a desert road up to Magdelena, about 50 miles long from our place that's mostly BLM land, all kinds of open
desert in between except an old ghost town called Riley. Just a few folks left there. We have an old 1958 CJ5 Jeep
that we 4x4 in, lots of area for shooting, even cannons. :)

Isn’t Bernardo where The Red Owl Cafe is/was?
Looked at the map. I was thinking of San Antonio NM.
