Daryl; Lehigh Valley will NOT freeze. That is the main reason I started to use it. I put some in a tin and on patches and left them in the freezer for 24 hours and they stayed the same as they were when I put them there.

Stumpy; I used it just as you described, very lightly on the outside of the patch and I made it to your specs. I was thinking it may be a difference in the climate, I don't know if humidity or the lack of may cause any different effects or not. It is very possible that the twist has an effect on it. One time I used the wrong patches in my .50. I used .54 by mistake, they were about 1/8" bigger around than the .50's, same thickness and my pattern went crazy. From 6" group at 25yds. till I found the problem and switched back to the right patches, then I was right back to cutting the same hole. These flinters can be contancerous at times. Besides all that, if it works for you that is all that matters. Who wants to live in a cookie cutter world? We all have different ways and what ever blows your skirt up is good with me also. Not that I am insinuating that you wear skirts  Sorry about that.

Every rifle is unique unto itself and we all load with our own techniques. Thanks for adding that. I was feelin flat.

Since we are all donating $.02 to the cause, here is mine. I think I was the first on the forum to mention the use of Witch Hazel, which is a component of my highly secret formula for Cat Whiz Lube. The recipe for this is even more closely guarded than KFC's 11 herbs and spices or the formula for Coke. I shall reveal it now. I use equal parts of witch hazel, 91% alcohol, Murphy's Oil Soap, and Olive Oil. The amount you mix doesn't matter, just use equal parts of these ingredients. I tried the same formula using castor oil instead of olive oil and the difference was hardly discernable. The castor oil also costs about 4 times what olive oil does. I can shoot a 30 shot practice session without swabbing and accuracy is excellent. Some of you may think this falls in the category of El Toro Poo Poo but my last session in the back yard ended with five straight hits on a 2.75" x 6" hanger at 50 yards, offhand. I have no reason to try any other lube as I am supremely satisfied with this mix. I came up with it while trying to get something similar to Lehigh Valley lube but at much less cost. I can make a half gallon of Cat Whiz for what a 6 oz bottle of Lehigh costs. Generic MOS and the cheapest olive oil you can find will work just fine. :m2c:

well thank you Superflint :master:Ive been diggen threw past post tryen to find out where the witch hazel idear first evoled from.
Ive made a batch of stumpys moose milk, apears to hold a lube quality i have yet to see in other moose milks.Make sure to shake the bottle well before appling to a patch.Looks like it seperates after sitten a spell. My main concern with moose milk is will it freeze in cold weather.Seems my 36 likes a good spit patch moren anything else ive tryed yet.Now i need a moose milk that wont freeze or cause rust when left in the bore on a cold day.I will give em both a try along with the old murphys/alkey at 50/50.thanks again to superflint an stumpkiller fer coming up with a moose milk potion :master:

Interesting...."Cat Whiz" lube, would you believe that you have what I "think" Lehigh Valley lube is! I like Lehigh Valley, everything about it, but the cost. I also seem to loose as much as I use making the cost near double.
I tried Stumpy's Moose Snot in both my .54 and my .58. I think it did better in the .58 but it has a 1:72 twist. The .54 has a 1:48.
My own .50 Penn Hunter with it's 1:66 seems to do better with LeHigh than anything else and I have proved that to myself more than once.
Do I see something forming here...as in a slow twist preference?
If "Cat Whiz" will pass my Penn Hunter test, and improve my 1861 colt's performance, then I'm sold.
I'll pick up the "makings" tomorrow and build me a batch.
Many thanks for your well guarded receipe. It is safe with me, as I usually forget what it wuz, or how much of whut I put in my lube anyway....Oh, I make notes. I make lots of notes! Someday I'm going to find'em too.
