Homemade casting pot

Ok my friends call me cheap but i just cant see paying for something I can scroundge up.My neighbor built a new dock and had a bunch of old cassing he pulled out of the lake.I cut a section of 4 inch cleaned it up wealded a bottom on added a some handles and I now have a pot I like.

Thats a good job on the pot. I do the same thing if I can make something to save money I will. Now you should have some extra money for some lead. Where there is a will there is a way.

Nothing wrong with that. I have one similar to it, only taller and without handles that is used to melt and clean recovered bullets. Works good.

I'm like you, chea....errr,uh, frugal! Years ago I took a discarded fire extinguisher and cut off the bottom about 4 inches deep, welded on a couple of large rivets at the top on opposite sides and put a bail handle on. Like yours, mine works great...total cost? Zip, nada, zilch, nothin'. Satisfaction? Priceless. Emery

Have one close to what you made. The difference is I have a 1/4 X 1 1/2 X 24' handle welded on the side. The flat bottom catch's the heat better than the round cast iron melting pots. Great job on the pot. Tom F.

Thanks guys it works great gets hot and realy holds the heat .By the way the handles get hot but not to hot if your wearing your gloves.I put two handles on for no other reason other than its easer to handle when Im done and pour the rest into ingots.Wait till you see the coal forge I just built out of a old propane bottle.It also works great,I took pics from start to finish in case anyone wants to do the same.I do need to shorten the top half a little its a little deep.I get the pics up tomarow.

To shorten, cut off at the weld and bend the handle points 90 deg at the desired length and then you have more weldable surface more than just the very end. Then cut off any extra that may hang over the bottem (if any). or take one side off and weld back one half the handle as to have a pivot point. then you can rest it on a stump or rock and pour it out like a crucable.

Thats gotta hold a lot of bullets.
