New to this and have a couple of questions.
1 - When reference is made to the lube mix (eg 50/50 beeswax and fat) is this volume or weight?
2 - Obtained some pure lanolin and was thinking of this in a 50/50 mix with beeswax. Anyone with experience &/or suggestions?

Thanks -- lots of great knowledge to pick up here -- greatly appreciated

Doesn't matter. Don't over think it. I wouldn't make up too much on the initial batch until you've tested it, the make as much as you'll need. I do add lanolin to mine but only about a tablespoon/lb.

I use 75% bees wax with 15% Mineral Oil and 10% Rosen powder, melted into a tin. The Rosen gives the wax a brittleness to it, however when pressed on to a ball or bore, it becomes soft.

I made it with deer fat from a harvest..its just as hard as beeswax but more better i used murphys oil soap poured in after to get it soft enough after it cooled it was still to hard so i re heated it and added more.I GOT a recipe from this blanket prize of pillow ticking and a tub of lube from a compitition id won..here it is..it looks and feels like good stuff; 5oz of melted beeswax /1 pint of mineral oil mix as you melt at 150 dregees ...in a sperate container mix 2 tsp of borax with 1-1/3 cup of water carefully pour water borax mixture into wax/oil mixture stir n let cool...ILL DO THE SAME WITH DEER FAT (FREE) instead of beeswax

I do mine by weight…1:1 ratio

Does it matter weigh / volume 50/50 is the same
Yes, and no. A given weight of beeswax will have a different volume than the same weight of olive oil, their densities are different.. In the world of patch lube we mix them as we feel they need to be, according to our needs/locales/loads. So, does it matter? Hoe "scientific" do you wanna' be? I don't measure them at all. I mix olive oil into melted beeswax and when it cools, I check it for "creaminess". Not creamy enough, add more oil, too creamy, add more wax. It's patch lube, not rocket science.

I used a listed lube mix and was very careful to adhere to the formula add wax add oil add lard to get the creaminess desired . I intended to mix enough for a few tins maybe 4 oz but every time it cooled it was hard no one ever said to stir it once cooled to check creaminess well I ended up mixing 16 oz by the time I got what I wanted while I am set for many many shooting sessions and a perfect patch lube ,when someone asks about a lube mix you should tell them to stir it once it cools because if you don't the bees wax will harden on top so you reheat and add olive oil reheat add wax ect......... LMAO
