While working on The Great Powder Test this weekend, I was shooting my Stainless TC Flinter at a range populated by modern battle-rifle shooters. Lots of AKs, M14s, an Uzi, etc.

People saw me shooting a black plastic & stainless gun that made lots of smoke and came over to talk. Without exception the comment was "Woah! That's a FLINTLOCK!?!?! I've got to get me one of those! What did it run you?"

I've never experienced anyone doing that when I was shooting my Mossberg/Inline or seen anyone do that to someone shooting a "Traditional" brown gun.

Just goes to show, there is a reason for everything... :hmm:

Black and plastic and stainless!!!! :bull: :youcrazy: These sins can not be forgiven. :nono: You must redeem yourself and pray to the muzzle loading Gods that they will have mercy on you, but I really doubt that's going to happen.

I suppose a fellow would notice a really ugly woman before he saw a purty one. Human nature being what it is and all. Kind of like a two headed dog. :rotf: Where you shooting plastic boolets, too, over Pyrodex pellets? Guess that would be Post-Modern Traditional. Don't forget your naugahyde possibles bag.

Jest funnin'. :haha:

If it barks like a dog and looks like a dog then it must be a dog.
Way to go...You might have made some converts

tis the opposite for me I go to a club where everyone is shootin muzzleloaders...and when all is quiet and noone is around I finish off a target with one of my cowboys guns or {worse yet} my Glock

Black and plastic and stainless!!!! :bull: :youcrazy:

(That bottle of Black Bush by the muzzle is about 1.5lb 4F... :shocked2: )

Not to worry. I have already atoned by ordering a custom 12ga Howda... :shocked2: I think firing that off will be atonement enough. :blah:

Actually, I disdain sabots and even though it is "designed for" pyrodex pellets, the only way I'd shoot them is someone handed me a couple. OTOH I am a big fan of Minnie Balls...

While Naugahyde is a bit much, my (field) possibles bag is a Large Black Cordura "Gunnysack". If it can hold a 1911, handcuffs, 4 extra magazines, ID, Wallet and Badge, it can hold most of what I need in the field. Especially if I use paper cartridges or fancy plastic ball&powder "speedloaders". :blah:

I was reading thru my NMLRA Muzzleloading manual today and saw something that made me remember this thread. On page 7, Unit 3, Black Powder, at the end of the 3rd paragraph, it says "Never store it in a glass container." :nono:

They don't say why not.

Best I could figger was that it might get knocked over and broke. Or maybe, if the sun hit it just right, it might go BOOM! Sorta like an ant under a magnifying glass.('cept ants don't go boom) :shocked2:

Anybody know the real answer?

As for powder in a glass container I think it is the fragile (usually) nature of glass that is responsible for the warning. I have also heard stories of bottles working as a magnifier (Heck I have even started a fire using a glass bottle full of water like a magnifing glass) but I don't know if it would apply to the interior contents or not.

Now that would be way cool, exploding ants. :rotf: There has got to be a military application for that.

If sunlight ever makes it to that bottle in my basement shop, it will be because the rest of the house decided to take a side trip to OZ. :shocked2:

I'm sure it's bcause glass breaks. But then, that's why I used a heavy booze bottle rather than a mason jar.

When I use up my substitutes, I'll keep 4F & fines in those plastic canisters. But for now, a Black Bush bottle full of Black has a certain amount of shelf-novelty.
