Here is horn #2 and dang i'am proud of this one as well. Its a small horn and i will likely use it as a small day horn or primer. Again this is a contemporary horn with 1700's style, but with modern art.

If the inscription is hard to read on the bottom panel, it's a poem i made up yesterday and it say's:

"I powder thy pan, to make ready the fight. So hot the spark, my powder ingnite. Flash, Smoke, Fire and Light, thy enemy has fallen, his anger to smite."

Anyway, here's some pic's from start to finish.

Thank's for looking,
Danny Biggers

Excellent Danny! Just excellent! That came out great. I love the art work that you and Mitzi do on these. Keep it going!

Great job Danny. Your horn is absolutely beautiful, and your poem was good also. Keep up the great work.

Danny, I love the color in that one  What did you use to get that color on the spout end? :v

I need to fess up here on this one. The color was a pure accident, that went right. I had the intentions of this horn being colored like my first one. As you can see, it is not. I'am sorry but i must say it, "thats what i get for listening to my wife, the artist"....In here immortal words..."you should add some more ORANGE to your mixture".... :cursing: and to make matters worse...I did it. Needless to say the horn came out Tennessee Vol's orange... :cursing: :barf: So i mixed some strong yellow and left the horn in there for over an hour and it still came out somewhat orange. I then antiqued it and amazingly it came out pretty darn good. Almost a copper brown color. Doesn't match my 1st horn, but its pretty cool none the less. The neck turned out the way it did, again by "accident" due to over exposure to the yellow. I could have heated up my cocoa brown and redarkened it, but thought nahhhh, looks pretty good... It took me longer to get this color right, than it did to carve and engrail the entire shoulder, neck and spout... :shocked2:

Thanks for looking and for your wonderful comments. You fella's are absolutely the best. :hatsoff:

Danny... :)

A little insight on horn #3...It will be a 1700's reproduction and with Scott Morrison's help and guidence, it will be 100% Period Correct.

Jeeze Danny, I haven't done a PC horn yet. How am I supposed to guide you? I keep trying though...

:shocked2: Well i guess i'am screwed then.. :haha: ...cause if you ain't done it yet, then i don't stand a chance of making it happen.. :rotf: No matter, your still my hero.

I take it there's more to a period correct horn then just making it look real old and toning down the art work some.. :hmm: Well, i'll give it the ole cowboy effort anyway's.. ..but first, what is the deal with "powderhornsandmore" there stock is looking mighty slim... :shocked2: Can i get raw polished horns anywhere else, until they get some more in???

The only way to produce a period correct horn is to study those horns. Research what was done, understand why they did it that way, and try to replicate it. I look at it as a lifetime endevour...
