Hello Gentleman - first time post - bear w/ me I have 2 horns to work on , they are a light green/cream color , is this natural or does something else cause this color.

I have heard that the greenish colored horns are from beef cattle.Nothing wrong with them, there was an original at Golden Age Arms Co. in Ashley, Oh.They are easier to work IMHO they seem to be a little softer.Makes a real nice lookin' horn if you leave it the natural color and give it the beeswax buff! Scrimshaw is the same as on a white one.

Different breeds tend to have different horns. I know dairy cattle best. Ayrshire dairy cattle have wonderful double twist white horns with brown tips.

Holsteins tend to have shorter stockier horns, white to black, or black. Depends on their hair coloration on the head. The pity is that now so many cattle are de-horned when they are weaned and others have been bred to be "polled"- no horns.

I've got a big "greenhorn", but won't use it because it's a greenhorn and I ain't. The one I use is a blue and white sorta colored one. That green ones a pretty sucker though and would hold a pound of powder I betcha. Most horns nowadays are from South America. Roane cattle. Pahaska
