First big thanks to the forum and all the expertise on here ! An amazing resource of information!!!! Gave me the confidence to tackle a new project.
I recently picked up this plain horn….guy said he’d been using it for 30+ years or so. Looked like a good base for my horn project. He was happy it was gonna have another life.
I really wanted to try my hand at some scrimshaw so using the NorthWest Token as inspiration I did a Beaver !
Added my name and a crude map depicting the location of the first NorthWest company fort here in 1812 !
Gonna add some more as time goes on but my tendonitis doesn’t like scrimshaw I discovered so it’s a slow go for m me ! 🥺 lol
The butt cap was glued on so i removed and refitted it and wood pinned it in place. Added some file work around the edge….shaped/carved the tip (this took and amazing long time !)
Turned out okay I guess and should do the trick 😎

Looks great! One last thing I would do to finish it off and by no means is it necessary, but I would stain that horn with some light brown fieblings leather dye and wet sand it back lightly with 1200 grit sandpaper after dry. That’s just me.. but if you decide to leave well enough alone, it looks great as is.

I agreed and went for it ! Actually really pleased now ! Pics make it look like light spots and blotchy for whatever reason but the colour is actually quite even !
I like it and thanks for the tip 👍😎
