Recently picked up an old powder horn with a few bug holes in it. My question is how were they repaired in order to be P/C? Epoxy, of course, is out, but what about wooden plugs or brass or silver plates?
Any and all suggestions would be appreciated.

Lead, rawhide, squirrel skin, inlays/overlays, pine tar and sawdust. All depends on what you have, and what you want.

one idea - while not 100% PC/HC - is to whittle a piece of horn down to fit the hole, epoxy in place and sand smooth with the body.

have seen lead or pewter poured in to fill these. also rawhide wraps and even wire wraps are an HC/PC option as well.

You might think about just hanging that old horn and enjoying it as it is! Think of all the stories it has to tell and where it's been.
But that's just me!...Now, you have an original relic of history. Fix it and all you will have is a FIXIT!
