Thanks, Crossfire.
Some folks like the bag hanging clear down over the flap if I understand their posts right, and for me that really put it in the way of the flap. I had originally hung mine 2" higher than it is now, but settled on this for looks and function. It's not a problem where it is now, cuzz when you raise the flap it kinda pushes the horn back while pulling the bag out for easy access. I think the reason many folks hang it lower is to help in closing or keeping the flap closed. It may depend a lot on how low you hang your bag, but with mine so low (my fingers just reach the bottom), the horn was just in the way lower than this.
The wooden thing hanging down is a 90 grain powder measure. The top end of the thong is looped so I can add it or take it off, depending on which rifle I'm using or what I'm hunting. I just hung it on for the photo, but when I'm using bigger bores it or it's cousins live there. I just shove it in the bag when not using it. It kinda helps keep the horn from swinging too much when I move.
And to tell the truth, I enjoy whittling that type of measure, and I've got them in 30, 40, 50 and 80 grain sizes. The loops on the thongs let me get real specific about matching loads to rifle. You'd have to see it to appreciate it, but I carved another 25 grain measure from the tip I cut off this horn. It turned out so well, I may go back to a conventional plug so I can hang the bone measure on this particular horn. The tip was hard as ivory compared to the rest of the horn, but the results were worth the effort of carving.
