Another question from "A new guy". Does anyone have any experience using Hornady's PA conicle in the Great Plains Rifle? Hornady claims that it is suitable for rifles with slow twist like the GPR. Is this true?

dont know about THAT exact combo but i shoot a T/C Hawken and Renegade with the same 1/48 twist and use the Hornady Great Plains connical...shoots very nicely.
I would suggest even as I did NOT want to hear it but learned it the hard way way....Buy ONE box and see how they group for you. IF they do well great buy more if not try the next thing. I have learned that every rifle IS a unique indiviual.

I have shot the LEE REAL bullets in my GPR 54cal at 25 yards they shoot into one hole. I have not tried them at 100 yards yet. Somewhere I have a MAXI mold I will have to try them also.

The GPR has a slow twist and unless the bullet is pushed with 100 grains or more I don't believe it will stabilize. IMHO

Yes, I have used the PA conical in my flint GPR. With the same powder charge as my PRBs (90grs.FFG), it shot somewhat lower at my standard 50 yd. practice target.(I forget exactly how much - 3-6 inches at least). The one thing that I absolutely did not like was handling the things. They are covered with lube, almost like axle grease. That's good in some ways but mighty messy to handle. They'd be a pain to reload in the field.

They shoot great in my GPR with 70 gr 3F, as for the lube, the first thing I do when I get them is to soak them in mineral spirits to get that axle grease off and then relube them.

I've shot the PA Conical. 70 grs of 777 out of my GPR it shoots 2 inches lower than round ball but have gotten some decent groups out of them. The grease is pretty messy and it takes a little effort to get them down the barrel.
