No need to carry another gadget. Just build up the fire so's it burns big and hot. If done correctly,it will take a deluge of biblical proportions to drown a big enough fire.

try a local HVAC contractor, gutter shop or heating/cooling service shop. the larger ones usually have "tin benders" on the payroll and just might sell you what you want!

A roofing company that does standing seam roofs would have such tin, but it wouldn't look nearly as rustic as an old piece of tin salvaged from a barn or shed being torn down or renovated.

According to www.andek.com/metal_roofs.htm

The use of metal roofs dates to the Roman Empire. Use of lead, copper, and zinc as roofing materials was carried to North America in colonial times. Tinplate use began in the early 1800's. So swiping a piece of tin roof for cover would occur in the 1800's. Use of copper or zinc would be an earlier period. Lead could also be used, but would be a mite heavy to tote any long distance.
If anyone has a lead roof on a building which needs to come off, let me know and I'll be right in touch!
