Not knowing where you live but if you have a trash collection service, these ideas are not so good. They will end up in a land fill. If not killed by the oil, the caps could potentially start a fire in the trash truck when they get compacted by the truck.
Just try to dispose by firing them on an empty, unloaded barrel. My $0.02 opinion.
It is virtually impossible for a cap to be detonated by compaction in a garbage truck and start a fire

I had a bad batch of homemade caps. So I poured them out on a cinder block and hit them with a blow torch. Sounded like popcorn. A few jumped up & hit my hand but it felt kinda like getting hit by sparks off a grinder -- nothing dramatic.

Before you soaked them in water you could have whacked them with a hammer. I got a tin of caps at a garage sale one time, the caps inside were terrible, corroded and green. All I wanted was the tin anyhow, so whacked the caps with a hammer, a couple went off but most didn’t.
Got a shard of brass stuck in my knee from doing that as a kid. These were musket caps. Would blow a chunk of concrete out of the sidewalk.

Howdy, you might be surprised to find out, caps are hard to come by these days... in fact, some of us are makin' our own! But you can sell those old caps, just as they are for good money on Gun Broker. Go have a gander at what they go for... A tin of 250 New RWS 1075 with freight will go around $80 dollar! And no, I ain't a joshin'.

Black powder residue isn’t corrosive, it is hygroscopic. Which means it attract mosisture which is corrosive.
Thank you for the clarification, I do understand the concept, I was being facetious, as “What difference does it makes if the caps is corrosive when shooting black powder???”

I would like to know how you determined they were to old?

An ol fella told me some years ago that they use to chew them a little and if a couple popped off they knew the Caps werent too old to use; he had to repeat that a few times though as I couldnt understand him on account that he didnt have many teeth.......
