How do you eat them

I had grits for breakfast this morning
My wife got up a little later and asked what I had. She usually chooses something different
But she thought grits sounded real good
So I made hers.
Mine, grits a little butter, some cheese, pepper flakes and ground hot pepper
Her
Grits, butter,sugar and milk
Do you like your grits savory or sweet?

Pretty much the same, but with some crushed bacon. Everything is better with bacon!

I like them lots of different ways. Simple breakfast might be sweet with butter, cream and sugar. Plain at dinner might be butter, salt, and pepper. Savory breakfast might be plain grits topped by sautéed tomatoes, onion, bacon, and shrimp that is liberally salted. A nice dinner side would have shredded cheddar and smoked cheddar with a fair amount of black pepper. This is just a small set of options.
Grits are good too many ways. Having just one way to make them is disrespectful to that mighty meal.

I do love some grits. Don't think I have had bad grits. As an entree, fairly firm smothered with redeye gravy with with a few eggs over easy and ham as a side. Best with biscuits. Dessert, smothered with butter and honey.

Wife wont touch them, me there is no bad way to have them, when we were first married lived in N.Carolina right on the coastal shore, went to our first married breakfast together, placed our orders. When they came there was two big bowls of grits along with the orders, she looks at me and said I didnt order those damn things, told her your in the south honey just hand them over here.
