I like fried mush. I ate that quite a bit growing up as my Mom liked it so we ate what she ate for breakfast. I never experienced grits until I went into the army. Stationed at Ft. Polk in Louisiana, they served grits every morning. Standard southern faire I guess. The only way I could stand the dry gloppy grits was to put butter and syrup on them. If I eat them today, I put butter and syrup on them. I see recipes for Shrimp on grits. Why ruin perfectly good shrimp with gloppy grits underneath.

I still eat fried mush for breakfast. So does my 97 year old mother. My brother and I roast and grind our own cornmeal from the corn we grow. I fry it in butter and eat it with corn syrup. It's a treat for me.

Bob Evans used to have Fried Mush on their menu. I enjoyed it any chance I could with Maple syrup. Haven't been to Bob Evans for a couple of years.
I also like Scrapple, but hard to find around here.

Anyone out there that has discovered scrapple? I was introduced to scrapple (homemade) at my grandparents rural farm in Virginia in the late 1950’s.
Grits! I like them with plenty of butter, pepper and salt. Good old down home fare. But better yet is Scrapple. Fried to a golden brown, served hot with fried eggs and toast or better yet, biscuits.
Actually had some for breakfast today.
Wife and I just love scrapple.

I just had grits yesterday for breakfast. I make it with sliced Polish Kielbasa, black pepper, and a couple of shakes of good cayenne pepper. The sausage meat supplies the salt for a flavor-full balance. I find that a slightly spicy, savory recipe, makes even the worst coffee taste good. My coffee is by the way, strong enough to float a horse shoe.
I’m reaching for the Pepto Bismal just reading that….

I am presently in N.C. and I have shopped in a lot of grocery stores. I have never heard nor saw anything like you described? Please get the name of this so I can check again!
Grits and Corn meal Mush are to separate items. I grew up having mush occasionally at home. Topped off with butter and syrup. As for grits Cracker Barrel does a fair job. I just stir in a butter pat. I just eat up and give thanks. Besides support our American corn farmers! 🌽

Someone said scrapple?! Grew up making it and still do. For those who think fighting over grits is bad, fighting over scrapple is worse. Corn meal or buckwheat flour (only buckwheat flour), onion or not (not), sage or not (not) and fists can fly over how much salt, pepper, and coriander goes in.

I've ate it and played it. I really like it when I get a big word score.
