How do you store your flints?

I’ll go one better than the Crown Royal bag. Mine are in a Blanton’s bag :)

I’ve been thinking of making a new shooting pouch with 3 or so small interior pouches sewn into it, to hold flints. Maybe also a loop or two for a turnscrew and a knapping hammer. Kind of like a flint wallet built into my pouch.

Blantons is definitely a step up! They have some great coffee (beans) too.

I've considered making a flint pouch, just finished a ball bag. A pouch may be a good little project for some cold days coming.

A wise person, might practice knapping .Enough to make their own and buy some chert. I think i paid ?40$for 30# of james town.(more than a lifetime supply!
let's see, 30# with 80% waste. 8# of flints. that would be a lifetime supply for me too!

I store mine in peanut jars, coffee cans, divided plastic boxes, the floor of my knapping area, on top of my shooting bench, in my hoody pockets, even my suit coat pockets. get the feeling i am a slob.

Curious how others keep their extras.

The flint wallet is one I made that stays in my possibles bag.

The storage box I bought a couple of years ago at Hobby Lobby in the raw (cheaper than I could have built it) and I stained and finished it.
I carry a few in my shooting bag, flint wallet, all the rest are in bags in my shooting box.

In a flint wallet for each bag made for each firearm except pistols. Since I knap my own I sometimes store in see=through plastic egg cartons that have the extra fold over lid. Secured with rubber band and cushioned with toilet paper or cotton balls. Loose flints for fire steels are in Crown Royal or other liquor bottle bag, I don't mind them rubbing and dulling each other but not for my flintlocks. Knappers store their stone in buckets with water and top them off with bleach or vinegar to keep bacterial growth down.

I keep a couple in each shooting pouch and have a quart jar full of each size I use on my workbench. If I ever use those up I have at least a coffee can or 2 of each size in the pole barn with some spare powder and balls. I hate running out of stuff!

Thats the way we were brought up wasnt it, stock away anything you use regularly that may become scarce; wisdom in hindsight tends to be pointless when its too late.

I’ve tried knapping flints too, with extremely limited success. But it is doable.
Mine seem to wind up so thin, I can read through them. Others resemble humpback whales. Then there's the width thingy. I have managed to make some so sharp, I've cut myself. I recently found a tool made of wood, lead weighted, and has a copper cap. I may try one of those. My Moose antler just ain't working, much to my chagrin.
