Blantons is definitely a step up! They have some great coffee (beans) too.I’ll go one better than the Crown Royal bag. Mine are in a Blanton’s bag
I’ve been thinking of making a new shooting pouch with 3 or so small interior pouches sewn into it, to hold flints. Maybe also a loop or two for a turnscrew and a knapping hammer. Kind of like a flint wallet built into my pouch.
let's see, 30# with 80% waste. 8# of flints. that would be a lifetime supply for me too!A wise person, might practice knapping .Enough to make their own and buy some chert. I think i paid ?40$for 30# of james town.(more than a lifetime supply!
I carry a few in my shooting bag, flint wallet, all the rest are in bags in my shooting box.Curious how others keep their extras.
The flint wallet is one I made that stays in my possibles bag.
The storage box I bought a couple of years ago at Hobby Lobby in the raw (cheaper than I could have built it) and I stained and finished it.
Those flints are just flat spoiled
we're all teched thats why we're here .....I think there’s good method to your madness!
But is it a leather zip lock bag ?Stored in nothing fancy, just the ziplock bag Track sent them in. Take 2 to the field or range in a tool wallet, like seen in the first post.
I keep a couple in each shooting pouch and have a quart jar full of each size I use on my workbench. If I ever use those up I have at least a coffee can or 2 of each size in the pole barn with some spare powder and balls. I hate running out of stuff!
I've got a plastic box and just dump all I have together. I keep a couple loose ones in my shot pouch. I threw some French ones in w/ the British ones.
I store my extra flints the same way. Those "in service" are in a wallet in my possibles bag.My flints live in fishing tackle trays and the ones that dont make the trays are in TOW plastic bags
In a dice bag?Only the best for my flints.
My local creek has a lot of chert. I sometimes find arrowheads made from chert. I've tried flint knapping and it ain't easy, at least for me.A wise person, might practice knapping .Enough to make their own and buy some chert. I think i paid ?40$for 30# of james town.(more than a lifetime supply!
I’ve tried knapping flints too, with extremely limited success. But it is doable. My local creek has a lot of chert. I sometimes find arrowheads made from chert. I've tried flint knapping and it ain't easy, at least for me.
Mine seem to wind up so thin, I can read through them. Others resemble humpback whales. Then there's the width thingy. I have managed to make some so sharp, I've cut myself. I recently found a tool made of wood, lead weighted, and has a copper cap. I may try one of those. My Moose antler just ain't working, much to my chagrin.I’ve tried knapping flints too, with extremely limited success. But it is doable.
