Friends, our 2nd Amendment rights are always under attack and the NRA has been a constant for decades in helping fight that fight.
We have partnered with the NRA to offer you a discount on membership and Muzzleloading Forum gets a small percentage too of each membership, so you are supporting both the NRA and us.
If one were so inclined, it might be best to sun dry it to kill the bacteria, scrape up the flakes and store them in a bottle. The flakes could then be ground up and mixed well resulting in a consistent product. As snot lubricant was needed, you could add distilled water to re-constitute as much as you need. But, snot for me. :surrender:
I use Hoppes #9 BP Lube. My patches are wet to the feel but never "drippy". On the occasions I use Natural Lube 1000, I get them fairly greasy so I can feel it.
The amount of lube I use depends on which one I'm using.
With Bore Butter and similar lubes I heat it in a small can and push my pathces down into the liquid.
I then pull them out, squeeze out the excess and let them reharden.
These seem to work fine if I'm shooting Pyrodex (which doesn't seem to build up fouling no matter how many shots are fired).
If I'm shooting a flinter where real black powder is needed I use Stumpkillers Moose Juice which many of you know is a oil/soap/etc liquid.
With this, I dampen the patch to about the same wetness I would use for wiping (not swabbing) the bore.
It's not wet enough to dampen much of the powder charge but it is enough to wipe off the previous shots fouling as I ram it down the bore.
