Any type really, it's all going to depend on how YOU build the kit. Most people I'd say have this preconceived notion it's exactly that... a kit that just has part A going to part B which certainly isn't the case. I bought mine for about $800.00 US dollars from Track of the worlf. Allot of guys don't like track kits, I can see that if one is looking for a historical correct piece, they might look elsewhere. However, for me I wanted a quality, functional rifle that would serve me well in the woods and at the range. Also the gratifying experience of building. Their website allows you to custom pick parts and pieces that will increase or decrease your final bill. IMO on parts quality, I'd say for example, a Jim Chambers kit will probably have better parts castings and stock blanks that won't require as much work for fit and finish of those different historically correct parts... does that ultimately mean a better rifle? I think not, it all has to do with the most important aspect of the build and that's YOU! I for one enjoy the work, even the tediously tiring tasks of the build. Helps you grow and learn skills that will provide knowledge for your next build or help someone else.

What kind of gun can you have built for $1000.00. From me? None. That's close tothe cost of parts.
And David..... I've got a couple of nice custom barrels inlet into some really nice planks, bandsawed to the Rupp profiles we talked about.

I can put your name on one!!!

My many apologies... was on another page and skipped over that fact him referring to you building it... If I recall the post was in response to Old Ford and not you. :hatsoff:

So what kind of a gun could a person get for under $1000.00 Canadian with our dollar currently valued at 85 cents US?

Not much "new" unless you buy a factory offering from LeBaron's or Cabela's (Lyaman, Investarms, Traditions, maybe a Pedersoli).

1K in Canuck Bucks will barely cover the cost of a kit (with shipping) and then Customs will ding you for the tax as well.

Currently, a Rice barrel which costs $265 USD would cost you 265 (barrel) + 45 (shipping) = $310USD ($361CDN) then customs will ding you another $56.93 (HST plus $10 "processing fee").

So that $265 sticker price will run you nearly $418CDN.

So that's close to half of your grand shot just on the barrel :haha:

I would find someone close to the border (Kin folk?, Friends?) and get it mailed to them and bring it back over after a visit. That kind of Tax is disgusting and ought to be illegal.

How do you think we pay all of our "FAT" polyticians salary.
It's not that we can't have guns here in Canada.....we just can't afford to buy/get them.
As galamb said a barrel will cost $416, and yet I can buy a new Chinese 1911 A1 for $300. :cursing:

You may have to learn 'smithing and just roll your own barrel!

All of this is expensive, but you have something when your done......NOT made in China.....

Oh, it won't be 5 or 6 hundred dollars. Will be considerably more. In the $1500 range.

I may be looking to get a barrel, lock piece and trigger carved out (put in) of a long flint lock pistol. Just rough in. Its from a kit that has rough's cuts made. I just need it to set in right. Any ideal on ball park price.
