Own land? I paid cash for my acre with a house and outbuilding but I have to give the county a large portion of my income yearly or they will move me off of it and sell it to someone who will keep paying the taxes . We own no real property in this country, in one way or another we pay to stay on it. Taxes, insurances, utilities keep us in debt of a sort.

That is true. If I stopped paying property and school taxes on my 20.2 acres it would be seized and go up for auction in, I believe, 18 months. They do accept partial payments for 24 months (with 1% interest) to catch up. So there is some grace period. Thankfully our county is in no hurry to displace people from their homes and it commonly goes twice that long before action takes place. But it does happen in the end.

Rural us where we can pee off the porch without checking to see if anyone's watching. Make that the front porch. In the daylight. Regardless of your gender. Without hitting someone else's hound dog. That's "rural" (or you are a real sleaze).

For Aussie Bushmen, the world in general is his urinal.

My local council tax is a £100 a week. Most of it goes to help the down and outs up north, it’s another tax by the government collected by the local council, its using up all our savings , they don’t care !!!!!!!

Just two things you're sure to win, never cut towards yourself or pee in the wind.
Thought I was real smart as a boy. Instead of dismounting the old John Deere to take a piss I just stood on the axle. The wind blew the pee right into the spark plug. Ouch, those old tractors had magnetos.

I am living on 6 acres & you can't see a neighbor in any direction except at night. You spot light showing here n there. I have 20-30 deer on my place at any time day or night. Groundhogs tree rats several coons & couple of Bob cats. Yotes & i shoot them on sight. Couple-three foxes. Lots of birds & turkeys. I hunt the deer during legal shooting season

If you have cell service, you ain’t rural.
I have cell service, but have to use a booster tower. Still pretty sketchy service.
For a lot of years, I was the last cabin on this road, peace and quiet. I had hunting rights on nine sections of adjoining land, plus the national forest.
The past 20 years, at least 30 Mcmansions have been built on up the mountain from me. A few of them have been here long enough to find out what a bad winter is. They had to move out for the winter. I knew the area well before I bought my land, and knew this is as far up the mountain you can pretty reliably get out in the winter. There was only one winter I figured it was bad enough to park my truck down the mountain. When we get out of the drought, and have another old fashion Montana winter, I suspect there will be an exodus, leaving me the last person on the road again, at least through the winter.
