Every gun/barrel is different so what works in one won't work at all in another so trying to give an "optimum" load for somebody elses gun is futile.

The OP asked a question and my post was very clear:

For this first question, my best results have come from tight PRB combos pushed fast to avoid any knuckle-ball effect as they start slowing down.
Deer hunting Loads I've settled on:

Yes, Roundball, you were very clear. I was very clear too. What works in your gun ain't worth a spent patch in my similar bored gun. Giving load data is only good IMHO for starting loads, not optimum performance.
 :stir: :rotf: :rotf:

I'm reading all of this same as the OP, trying to get ideas of what others use for optimal performance. Seems most go for a tight ball/patch so far.

I am new to this forum, so please except my ignorance towards some of your jargon. I read several posts that refer to "PRB". Just what does that stand for. I am guessing perhaps, 'Precision Round Ball'? I shoot a Long Land Service Musket, cal. 75.and use a .715 round ball loaded from paper cartridges with 90 grains of 3f powder.

If I remember right Round Ball shoots over 100 gr in his 20 ga. I have thought about going on up with the charge in my 12 Ga and see if that would tighten up my groups but I'm not sure what the max load would be for my guns.I have shot 90 gr in the SXS and the fowler. I called TVM about the max load in the fowler and he said after 90 gr the recoil would really start talking to me . Never did say what the Max should be. Normaly recoil is not a issue with me. I'm just concerned about damage to the guns.

I agree Swampy, these smoothbores are fun..

Yes: Heavy powder charge.

Yes: Heavy patch with fairly tight ball fit.

Yes: Loads that work in one gun will often give good or best results in another of the same caliber.

No: Its not iron clad/set in concrete, but all three are a good bet.

Actually, the best way to optimize accuracy in a smoothbore is to rifle the barrel. :haha: :blah:

I wondered when some one was going to suggest that. :rotf: :rotf:

I thought of this too but I get in trouble when I suggest things like this

The best way to optimize accuracy with a smoothbore is to shoot it alot.

"Amazing I could of wrote that!

That describes my 58 load wise too"

Ah! confirmation of the old adage that great minds think alike :hatsoff:
