How To Stop a Moving Buck Deer

You as well. No racks for me this week though. Heading out to WY for antlerless elk Saturday. No muzzleloader sadly. I'm cheating this one.

Just back from WYOMING, no luck for me but my hunting partner shot a nice mulie, Elk is on the bucket list good luck.

I've taken quite a few deer that were "just walking", but if they are much farther than 50 yards I let them keep on walking. From a walk to a trot I'll take the shot definitely if it's not over "about" 30 yards, depending. Trot to a run is more like 20 yards. I always try to gage if the deer is going to pause - if I have enough time - before taking the shot.

yes , I've stopped many that way. my dad did that as well way back in the 1960 were I learned many tricks of hunting. had to show what I found when looking for my 8 pointer I shot with a bow.View attachment 104988
