You guys need to handle a 11" double barrel 50 cal pistol with a 25 grain before you think you need something larger. Some of my shots put a hole through the 3/4" target brace wood that looked like it was drilled. Believe me, it would have no problem going right thru a tiger skull. I can't imagine shooting even a 30 gr load.

this is very true, dont underestimate 25 grains of 3F powder! i load my 44 cal revolver with 25 grains of 3F BP and 4" of solid pine will not stop the ball at 25 yards (looks like the hole was drilled).

And I don't know about being the only important one, but the double 20 gauge is always cheaper. Check Dixie Gun.

its generally accepted that the 20g smoothbore howdah is the best outa the howdah series. it will shoot groups about the same as the rifled versions with a ball and it can shoot shot loads. its a great small critter and snake gun.

if it wasnt so expensive id own a 20g howdah. if they made the howdah with flintlocks instead of caplocks i would already own one.

Again, I find the 40 grain 3F 777 load very pleasant and accurate in my 20 gauge Howdah. The 60 gr is totally controllable but the recoil is such that it takes much longer to get back on target and I think it's counterproductive in the end. The trigger hand is where you would expect and the support hand is under the gun, closer to how you would shoot a long gun. I find the caps spit to the side so I wear a glove when I do this. I've shot it one handed at 40 gr and it's OK but I find I have to shift my hand to reach the second trigger and it's just really awkward.
