Hi folk!

A bit of a belated intro - I've been on the forum for a couple of weeks now, and you have all been immensely helpful getting me started in this amazing new adventure!

Currently trying to get started on Dutch's system with a New-to-me .50 cal T/C Hawken percussion rifle. Hoping this will be a good starter platform to teach me the basics.

Again, very new to this, so hope to continue drawing on the collected wisdom here - and maybe one day I'll be able to pay it forward!

Semper_Smokey, welcome to the Forum, lots of valuable advice here.

Since you're in the Charleston area, look up my friends in the Charles Town Longrifles Muzzleloading Gun Club around Monck's Corner. I used to go there for the SC State Shoot. We can start a conversation and I can put you in touch with the folks there.

Welcome ! I hope you enjoy your TC Hawken. I’ve enjoyed mine for over forty years.

Me too - just so long as I can get this stuck nipple off! Spent all weekend at it with penetrating oil, various wrenches and heat. My local gunsmith refuses to touch muzzleloaders, so I'm in touch with T/C and hope they'll save me!

Don't get your hopes up for TC to do much.

Ever since they became a small part of Smith & Wesson they pretty much quit supporting their sidelock guns.

Smoked, I can put you in touch with local muzzleloaders that can help you with your problem. Just start a conversation.
