I just got a recomendation to come join this site from another forum I frequent. I have recently gained more and more interest in muzzleloaders, and want to learn as much as I can. So here I am, seeking knowledge like whats the best kit for me to start with longrifle wise, both for building and to be used for hunting, eventually.

So hello everyone, may my stay be fruitful.

Welcome!
If you approach all of this with an open mind and read, read, read and read some more, you will learn more than you will find in any book!
Be open minded!

The lyman GPR is my vote for what you want to build!

Welcome RandyLee! I hope your stay here is fruitful! :hatsoff:

Howdy Randy. Welcome aboard! Lotta great info here. Poke around and enjoy yourself.

As the others have said, just read the threads of interest and then ask questions if you need more info. Welcome!!

Thanks for the invite guys! I'm currently jumping into all the info here, and soaking it all up. Luckily I don't have to work tommorrow.

I'm thinking the GPR will make a nice first kit, still debating cap vs. flintlock tho. And then I have to find a place to shoot before I ever pretend to take it hunting.

This will be a fun journey!

Yep!! Of course I'm a bit biased, but I would go with the flintlock. My first rifle was a cap lock and I haven't shot it in over 20 years since getting my flinters.

Welcome aboard RandyLee. :hatsoff: You found the right place.

I have GPRs in both cap and flint. Love them GPRs. Either way you decide, you should be happy.

That said, I'd recommend the caplock GPR for a 1st ML for a couple of reasons. The learning curve is not as steep with a capper. I think the caplock is more suited to the GPR style. My GPR flint lock does not even compare to my Chambers Siler-style flint lock.
I'd go with the caplock GPR and then start saving up for a semi-custom flinter. Once you get a good whiff of burnt Goex from that first gun, it's all over anyway, you'll be a BP junkie like the rest of us and "need just one more rifle".
Just my opinion. :v
