If your in Arizona, best leave the porkys alone. They are protected state wide.
I once asked a Game & Fish person why they were protected figuring that there aren't very many here but his answer suprised me.
His answer may have been a bunch of hooie but he said that because they are slow and relatively easy to kill they were being protected to give a food supply to people who were lost out in the forests, and starving.
That's what he said. Don't look at me in that tone of voice. :)

Then they can arrest the lost starving people for eating a protected animal... Job security :winking:

I have heard that porkys were protected in Michigan at one time for the same reason as in Az. Been told you can eat the meat raw.The timber people say they do a lot of damage. Rocky /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Will, just think about it.
There you are, totally lost for 3 days with no sign of help coming. Your gun got lost when you fell in the river just above the falls and you decided dropping the gun and swimming for shore was better than going over the falls. You ate the last of your pemmican and nuts yesterday and the critters have eaten all of the nuts/seeds within 100 miles of you.
Now what could possibly bring the law to within 20 yards of you quicker than killing a protected Porky? I'll bet the officer has got you up aginst a tree with one hand cuffed before your club can hit the ground. Not only that, but he will give you a ride into town in the truck he has parked right over the hill right behind you.

:(

I shot a 20 ounce plastic Coke bottle, ball went clear thru both sides, intend to shoot several more, just as soon as I drink the contents. Maybe I'll make me a Coke float.

DoLittle,.... I went to a rondyvoo thet had a "team shoot", a "team" consisted of 1 shooter with a rifle and the 2nd. shooter of the team with a smoothbore.

The targits were a can 1/2 filled with water and a slightly smaller empty can inside of thet'n.

Object was for the rifle-shooter to hit the bottom-half of the biggest can, which caused the empty-can to fly into the air for the smoothbore-shooter to shoot before it hit the ground. "LOTS OF FUN"!! :applause: :: :D

I'd rather hunt sheds. For the most part they don't move around and are easy to spot in the spring. Some of 'em are pretty good size and sometimes you can find two together. Often they are right in the backyard depending on your locale. You can see 'em right thru the back fence if need be and they abutt large fields that are open so you can get a good look at 'em.

I prefer the wood or cedar sided ones to the metal because they are not as noisy when you hit 'em, depending on the chosen caliber. Be careful, though, because unless they are holding compost or trash, you could get a ricochet off the yard equipment, implements or grill stored inside.

Regards, sse
