well there is still one way to do it. get a pa. hunter in precussion in .50 cal for deer. then get a shotgun barrel for it for birds and small game. you could use ant other rifle that has an easy to change barrel.
Not a bad idea. Is that gun still in production?
I did consider a gun with two different barrels. But if it came down to it, I would get the turkey gun first. I love callin those damm birds. I'm new at it. But i love it.
Another alternative is a Green Mountain dropin barrel for the TC Hawken and Renegade stocks.
I got a GM 1" x 33" .62cal(.20ga) drop in Flint smoothbore barrel for a TC Hawken stock and use it for Turkey hunting...

You can carry any ML in Mass without a FID.(MA gun laws are one of the reasons I gave up Centerfire hunting altogether).Since you are new, I would look at the production smoothbores first for reasons of simplicity, availability, and price.TCA out of Rochester NH has a selection of the models mentioned by others in this thread. I had a Cabela's .50 Hawken rifle kit that I finished in a hurry 10 years ago in order to get ready in time for the ML season. Over time, the home blued barrel was a pitted mess I have since obtained a .56 SB barrel and modified the Cabelas stock to accept it and the result is a "custom" "Renegade" type half-stock shotgun. While it is not my primary deer gun, it will shoot balls/conicals as well as shot.Check the forum history for discussion of these guns and loads. Pyrodex works fine for mesince it is a caplock. If you decide you like trad smoothbores and want to spend a little more, there are a variety of fowlers and trade guns on the market. You should take a ride to "Hunter's Rendezvous" in Pepperell Mass sometime. His wares are expensive, but top of the line. Fun place to visit, buying or not.

I'm sure that Dr. Tim and the rest of us Georgians could make room for another BP shooter in Georgia if it will get you out of Mass.

I do not agree with the above concerning Ma laws. In Ma TRADITIONAL MLs do not require a permit. Inlines DO. If you convert a sidelock to accept 209/rifle primers you need a permit. You can posess but cannot buy powder or caps without a permit. You cannot order powder or caps through the mail, permit or not. Smoothbore MLs are legal for Turkey.

Yes we have perhaps the worst gun laws in the nation, mostly shoved down our throats by politicans from the eastern part of the state. Currently there is a mayor from one of the eastern cities that wants to ban BB guns/air rifles from the state altogether (He hopes the other NE states will follow suit). He felt sorry for the crack head who got shot by police after pointing a BB gun at them, figures things like this won't happen if he can ban BB guns :youcrazy:

Sorry for the rant.........

Once upon a time I lived in California, which wasn't quite as bad as Mass. or Ill. but was certainly headed in that direction. It got to me so repressive there that my wife and I decided to vote with our feet. We love it here in TN. :applause:
You can do the same! :v

Thanks for the info and the rant, that's pretty much what iv'e been reading. Didn't know I couldn't mail order powder in MA. However my Dad lives in RI. I could look into that. Yeah at work some friends and me had a big discussion about the BB gun. I was so damm mad. Friggin election was over what- two days and now they start. Thank God the Crack heads are all gonna be safe now! I'm sure our new Civil rights leader Governor will support it too.

I'll never hunt on Sundays.
Thanks for the info. It's not that I refuse to get a permit. I JUST DON'T WANT TO SPEND 100 F^%$ DOLLARS TO BE ABLE HAVE TO BUY BLACK POWDER!! I mean after all it may be a BP hangun!! OOOOOOH. Whitebear I'm commin to Georgia!! Thanks for the invite. Just need to talk the wife into it. lol
:hatsoff:

good luck buddy,
