Hydrogen Peroxide?

Peroxide by itself would be one of the last things I would put down any of my barrels. I have a small amber bottle of it in my first aid kit for sterizing cuts.

I did make up some of the Murphys soap/alcohol/peroxide mix one time because it was recommended by someone. I agree with Pasquenel that there is not much free peroxide left after it mixes with the organics in the Murphys.

I've had the best luck with TOW's Bore Clean cut 50/50 with water. If that's not available, room temp water works as well as anything else.

I was always told warm coffee worked great as a solvent. I know it works but how much better than warm water I do not know.

Thanks,
Mark C. Foster

Well, I use it and I like it. Have used it for four or five years. Mix is one part Murphy Oil Soap, one part 70% rubbing alcohol and one part hydrogen peroxide, kept in a dark bottle. It cleans fast. As for being corrosive, so is black powder fouling. And water rusts. I tried water recently, and the bore was rusted about as fast as I dried it. Cured me of that.

I may be an armchair shooter, I only have cleaned a couple dozen rifles with this stuff, rifles I have made and others, following several thousand shots, in .36, .40. .45, .50, .54 and .58 calibers. My barrels clean up within about 10 minutes of work and are oiled. But even not oiled, there is no rust the next morning.

Probably all of you would moan about putting any abrasives in a rifle barrel, yet many of us do, steel wool to polish the lands, valve grinding compound to lead lap a bore, J-B bore cleaning compound, tooth past, Brasso, etc. So, yes, I use hydrogen peroxide because it works very well for me.

By no means do I think I know it all. I experiment and report accurately on my findings. And I certainly am pleased to learn from others who do the same.

Been using it for years .36 .40 .50 cals. never had a problem with rust, cleans very quickly lubricate with Ballistol. Best and quickest cleaner I have used.
