I'm sure there is some effect due to shock with any bullet. The .62 hot load bullet in my former post, produced about 3000 foot pounds of energy at the muzzle. All of that energy that remained at the hit, was transferred to the deer; as the bullet did not exit. The .662 ball from the musket was producing about 1100 foot pounds at the muzzle. Because the bullet exited; some of that energy was not transferred to the deer.

All the hits produced massive fatal tissue damage, yet the bullets that transferred more energy, had a greater physical effect on the animal.
