I'm on my way to pick this bad boy up

For me it is a dream come true to have all this capability.
Lathe, horizontal boring machine, disk sander, table saw and a jointer/planer

I'm so stoked right now that I had to vent on all those of you who can appreciate this tool!

Now that will be one handy rig once you get her cleaned up a bit and starting to use it. Looks like an old Shopsmith type set up. Good for you for finding it. Let the sawdust fly and the chips accumulate. Oh, keed the band aids handy too,

Gary

That will make a fine addition for your shop. I have the same machine, also have the stand alone planer they make. Very versatile, the one thing you will have to get used to is, after you set up for an operation, run all of your work through so you don't have to go back and set up again. It is hard to get it the same a second or third time. Try to keep it clean and dusted and well lubed with paste wax, it is easier to move the components if you do this. It also has a good power plant with precise control for speeds. Congrats on your new baby, you will enjoy it over and over again!! I also have about a dozen videos the company put out for different projects, e-mail me if you have any questions.

Hi Fellas

I thought I had already posted a response, but I don't see it here.

You are right, this is a Shop Smith 10-E.
This is the original model produced from 1947-52, and sold about 25,000 units a year during that time.
Those of you who already have them know that these things are built with cast steel and machined aluminum components....It's a wicked type of sturdy that you don't see so much nowadays.
With the proper care and maintenance, this thing will probably last another 50+ years.

Not surprisingly, there is a dedicated cult of backyard carpenters surrounding these machines. They also like to do a lot of selling/trading of spare parts and components......It's nice to know that if something breaks, I'm not completely screwed

I only have a little 10'x12' Tuff Shed to use as my shop, so this thing is small enough that I can wheel it around to use it's different components.

It's really sweet to spend a little less than $200 and suddenly have all this capability!
It's much better than buying everything separately in the pawn shops or Craig's List.
I wouldn't have any room to use it all anyways.

It was also a good reason to rearrange, clean and up the efficiency of my shop....it was already way too cluttered.

I have a few pieces of 3/4" pine which I can finally use to build a dedicated shooting box.
