Folks I have a young man that is need of a barrel. He has a Hawken, it was his grandfathers, but it got stolen, recovered a year later, and it had been shot and left the barrel to rot in a damp basement. The barrel is shot, I am looking for a replacement, does not have to have sights, ribs, thimbles, or wedge slot, dont care about the outside finish, I can hot blue or brown, just want a good smooth bore. This young man wants to take it to the woods, this fall in December, to remember his grandfather, who raised him up so far. All replies appreciated.

Just to offer another possible solution…since it is a T/C Barrel, you/he could send the barrel to Robert Hoyt to be re-bored or lined. My understanding is that he is very reasonably priced for excellent work.
Have not sent a barrel to Bobby lately, but should not cost much more than $150 including shipping. Difficult to find a decent barrel for that today.

I have a .45 barrel old and used never shot it. I got it from a guy who was upgrading his gun. I've had it for years, no rear sight blueing is hit and miss, has thimbles, ran oil rag down it got a small red tinge to it but feels ok patch pull evenly through it . just don't know much about it, but I'll ship it to you for 40.00 to help out if you decide on it, if you can't find a better one so no worries.
