You know, I am just really enthusiastic about getting deep into muzzleloaders. I now have a .54 Hawken flintlock, a .58 Renegade flintlock, my old CVA Bobcat, and I'm open now to a .54 or .58 caplock to go with those. I no longer have interest in QLA, as I only want to shoot balls. I plan to cast my own balls and bullets in the future.

Heck, I even have desires of wearing period clothing! And I'm so glad I found this site...tons of good info and good people.

The bobcat can be re-stocked as a learning experience and a more pc back up rifle on an extended trip.
Muzzle loading is a really great thing as there are so many aspects to it that one's interest never wanes.

Oh how I understand you

There is no way back - at least that's the feeling I am having right now.
You start slow thinking oh nice gun let's try shoot this and zing a moment later you stand there in period garb and accouterments. The worst part is you don't know how this all happened.

I am shopping for clothes right now, trying to get something going with the budget I am (NOT) having.

As you have discovered black powder is addictive. Soon you will be tanning your own buckskins, forging your own knives, and making your own jerky and dried corn. :idunno:

Yep..A year ago I bought a T/C Hawken, hunted all deer season with it(awesome!) Killed a deer, swore I would never do something dumb like wear period clothing :shocked2: I now have a special roundball barrel for my rifle, I want to build an Early Virginia Flintlock rifle, and I caught myself looking at 18th century hunting clothes! one year...see where i'm going with this? :hmm:

Yep, I've got the rifle. Now I'm getting my clothes together to hunt in period clothes this year 1780's. With some luck I'll have a picture with my clothes and a deer this year!. Just wish I had some rondy's to go to but there ain't none down here. I also wish I could go to Dixons and the CLR shows :( But it's a real far trip from here. I'm going to try to get up to Tip Curtis place sometime before the New Year. My bother lives up in north Alabama about a 3 hour drive from his place, maybe I can do a deer hunt and a trip. :idunno:

I understand as well. This has been my most fulfilling hobby and you might even call it a lifestyle. I even rank it above getting my pilots license. You have the best times and meet the best people.

I've been a mler enthusiast for a while now. Tradional mls have a beauty that modern cf rifles have never had, imo. A friend of mine says he doesn't like them because“they are to much work”.To me thats part of the fun. What's not to like!!

Stumpkiller you have this guy in the bag!!! Keep the candle in the window! I will join you shortly!

yes sir it is LOTS of fun! I have graduated from shooting for fun ONLY..to attending woods walks, buying period clothing,as well as making much of my own stuff and now am looking to get some camping gear...I tell ya.. this is ADDICTIVE!..Welcome to the madness!.. :haha:

There are so many aspects of the BP hobby! First of all it's FUN!! These arms are great and effective for hunting and recreation. BP shooting offers a path to learn more history, to develop new skills, heck, even to become more self-reliant. And you need follow that path only as far as you wish. I also consider the slower pace of BP shooting to be beneficial and relaxing, perhaps therapy.

But the people make the hobby. I've found traditional BP enthusiasts (from all backgrounds, professions, ages, and skill levels) to be some of the most pleasant and generous folks I've ever encountered.

Suggestion: If you haven't seen it, check out Muzzleloader Magazine. It does an excellent job covering so many aspects of the hobby. I have no connection to it except to subscribe. (disclaimer).

the shooting is great fun but the rondys are so much more. SUPER GREAT FOLKS to hang with. college level instruction on any ? you ask from several people. improve your hunting skills on the woods walks. just be careful on the apple pie offers. that stuff ain't for young ones
