Ok, I found me a 12 ga. barrel for my T\C New Englander. I have plenty of shot, caps and RS & FF Goex powder. Now I don't know what kind of wads I need. I want whatever is the easiest to use. I guess I will also need a large Jag for cleaning. Is there some kind of shot\powder containers that you can buy so you can pre load the correct charge of powder and shot in to take hunting? Y'all give me some ideas...and where to look for what I need.

Good luck with your new barrel. I bet you will get a lot of good hints. I'm a smooth bore newby too, I bought a Navy Arms (Pieta) sxs last spring.
Last spring for turkey I carried shot and powder is seperate green quick loaders for a my .50 caliber flintlock. I marked the loaders with tape to tell them apart. One of the nice things about the quick loaders is a notch to hold percussion caps.
To carry spare shot I used a small plastic spice bottle. It will hold enough shot for 12 shots +- depending on load.
I'm thinking of using 5-6 inch sections of 3/4 inch copper pipe to carry spare powder this year.

Best of luck.

Wads are available from Track of the Wolf and Dixie.

Traditionally, you would use and over powder wad, a cushion wad, the shot, and and an over shot wad.

Load information is available from Thompson Center. Do you have a barrel with screw in chokes?

Send me a PM if you are interested in fabricating paper shot cartridges. I have had very good success using them for pheasant hunting the last two years.

I just won the barrel on ebay and I don't know if it has screw in chokes. I am guessing it will not. They shipped it yesterday so I will have it by the end of the week.

Get a punch and make your own out of cereal boxes and felt.

The felt ones can be dipped in molten lube, put several of the cereal box ones on top of the felt and powder. Make a shot/shot cup out of post-it notes, top that with another cereal box wad.

I make my over powder/over shot cards from the beer mug coasters I can get from the local watering hole. They work well even if slightly oversize. Cushion wads from celotex...1/2 inch. You'll love hunting with that set-up. I sure do!!!!! I found that after the BP goes down the barrel, the card, cushion wad, shot and over shot card are seated in one push. I think it helps keep everything straight on the way down. Good luck.
