I was at the range earlier to day, i was taking the misses out to do some shooting, it was her first time shooting a flintlock. i brought my traditions hawken and set up to shoot. she and I take a number of shots and a few hours later we set the last target. i load, she has the camera ready and the gun has a pan flash, after about 3 primes and a lock cleaning later it wont fire. im stumped, it was already raining and i thought the load got damp, out comes the ball puller, and what do ya know it gets stuck with the ball. so i pack up allmost ready to go and my gf says, 'are u sure u put the powder down', naturaly i say of course........ i found the powder measure with the powder i was to put down the bore sitting next to the patch lube. well we had fun, now comes the hard work, believing in the misses and trying to remove the stuck ball with the puller in the bore.. :cursing: :cursing: :cursing: :cursing:

Just tell her that you were trying to show her what NOT to do :rotf: :rotf:

Man, but you've got stones! Taking the misses AND the girlfriend to the range at the same time!

hahah i see what u mean... no no...
sorry i often refer to gf as my misses, we have been together for about 2 years now and we just went shooting today for the first time together.

i can't speak for mckutsy, but i've dealt with a dry ball by pull the nipple and dribble as much powder into the flash channel as possible, and firing it. always worked for me! (no, i don't have to do that very often!)

thats Mckutzy. no i didnt remove it yet, i had packed up and was ready to leave when i had found out that i had dry-balled, i knew that i could have popped it out with some powder, but now im going to pull the vent and blow it using an air compressor.

Just tell her that her good looks was distracking you that was the reason it happened it will leave her speechless, and it will get ya a few browny points to boot. :rotf:

Dude, I seriously envy you having a gal that will go to the range with you. Dang, if my estranged wife had decided to be a range buddy - we would have had that in common at the very least. Charge on there, partner! :hatsoff:

A lesson I learned the hard way (as I learn most of them) is that a CO2 ball discharger is the best investment you will ever make! :rotf:

ya its cool, once i get my job situation sorted out, she says we are going to make it a once a month at least, thing that were going to do together.

hhahahah u guys are never gonna beleve this....

i was in the shop trying to fugure how im going to remove the stuck ball, my gf come home from work see's me working and asked why wrong. she say's here puts the smoke out, grabs the powder and filles the touch hole. then take the gun out back, primes and gives fire...
hands it back and say's "here it's now unloaded"

... :surrender: :surrender: :surrender:

:shocked2:

wow....im still shocked while writing this.....

That sounds so much easier then when I had to pull my wife's dry ball. Fuzzy memories of me standing on a chair pulling the ramrod while her and our two boys are hanging on the gun.

thats what had happened to me with the bess, 'cept i spent 3/hrs making a ball puller, and like u had my gf at the time, play a game of tug of war with the musket and I.
