I have an old horn (powder horn?) that I got in trade awhile back. I would like any information about this style. It looks like it may be European or Middle Eastern in origin. Any ideas?

Don't know, but I'm thinkin' North African. Probably goes with one of the Bedouin miquelet guns.

Hello,

I got a book about powder horns.
According to what I see on the photo and what it is explained, lot of brass and/or copper, large fastening clip (the ones of the photo have the same shape) I confirm this powder horn is typical in its general shape and details and certainly coming from North Africa.

Looks like I may need to get a different powderhorn... that is unless I come up with a new personna. Maybe an early eighteenth century Algerian Camel trader?

That might work, but if I recall there was a massive drop in the Algerian Camel populations at that time in history which might detract from the credibility of the persona :shocked2:

TG, I think that was after the camel population was depleted to supply the hide market, seems everyone had to have a camel skin turban.

Yes, that in the east and the use of silk in the west, put the Beaver out of fashion.

Clarence, I believe that it IS a Camel Gun Powder Horn. A few years ago, alot of service men were bringing them back from North Africa. I see them POP-UP at Gun Shows now and then.

As there isn't any moose over there sure they use camel milk...
