I've got a couple of TC Hawken rifles and have GM barrels for each. While I find the comb of the stock to be too high for them, with the GM barrels the sights align better and the factory barrels are at least tolerable. Not so with the Renegade. I recently was the high bidder at $150 on one in great shape that I would have loved to have kept. When I tried a GM barrel on the stock, which would have required some alteration to make it fit so I could get the barrel wedge through had I kept it, I could barely get my cheek low enough to see through the sights. I ended up selling the rifle. Anybody else have a similar experience with a Renegade?

Bought one about 15 years ago...one trip to the range and sold it...stock fit me poorly, LOP was way too short, cheek came down on my thumb, etc.

Yup. Lots of differences in the way we're built, and some guns fit, some don't. I love the Lyman GPR and my hunting pard hates them. No support for his head. But the sights line up perfectly for me.

The shoe is on the other foot when we switch to TC. The Renegade isn't so bad, but I have to really bury my head in the stock of a Hawken to come close to seeing the sights, and when I touch it off, the comb knocks the holy snot out of my cheek bones. Yet they fit my pard perfectly.

No problem here. The Renegade fits me perfect. That was the reason I bought it. I also like it because it doesn't have a cheek piece. I have to shoot left handed, and finding LH guns isn't easy.

The GPR on the other hand doesn't come close to fitting.

:idunno: Yup, it's all about fit.
Love the Renegade,
Dis-like the Hawken, (busts my cheek)
The Lyman GPR dis-likes me,

I put 1/2" high sights on the GM barrel and stuck it in a Renegade stock. Works fine.
TC

About 1 1/2" difference in LOP

Live with or change it ( add bumber to renagede or cut down hawken)

I also love my Renegade with 58 caliber barrel, as I'm left handed. If the barrel didn't drop all the way in, usually you need to file a little off the front of the stock, as the underlug goes a bit too far back on the barrel. It doesn't show when the barrel is installed.

Just for a different perspective...it might be better to remove the underrib and simply grind/file the back end of the inexpensive underib a bit to get it to drop in...rather than make a permanent alteration to the front of the Renegade stock.

While the GM barrel is not a true drop in for the Renegade I LOVE my Renegades. I have a TC Hawken that I put a 45 barrel on. I set it up just like the Renegades and WOW I can't get the windage to sight in. Because of the cheek piece I had to drift the front sight to get it to sight in. Then I had to cut the stock off and add a limb saver. That thing was KILLING me. In all the Renegades have been a joy to shoot and my Hawken is getting better. I wish it didn’t have that raised cheek piece. I might have to sand it off some day. Ron

I have 2 hawkens 50&54, & 3 renegades of different calibers trigger configurations etc. I find each one unique even though it is a production gun. It took me a couple of cheek smackings to figure out I needed to alter my form.

A 54 Renegade was my first blackpowder rifle... I tried the best I could to make myself fit the rifle, but the LOP was too short, the sights too low, and in a nutshell just didn't fit me for squat. Sold it and got a Lyman GPR instead, fits great.

I have a problem with the T/C rifles. They just don't fit me. I had one back in the early eighties but the stock was too short and it didn't have enough drop. I ended up selling it off.

I had a similar problem with my CVA Mountain rifle. The rifle didn't quite fit right. It was alright with light target loads but a hunting load would smack me in the cheek. I ended up restocking it with a Leman stock that gave me a longer pull and more drop in the stock. I've been using that one for over thirty years.

bought a renegade in flint way long ago, when men were men and giants walked the earth, when paratroopers wore brown boots and (oops! they're wearing brown again, after al these years ...)

hey- i still had all my hair back then...

it's always worked well for me, but since i made a rifle from a stock blank, i've become much more aware of the nuances of stock fit. i've thought of getting a new stock from Pecatonica (great folks- insert 'plug' here) but now i've got so many irons in the fire i fear that it would be an uncompleted project.

just one guy's free opinion, and worth every penny

In my neck o the woods theres more of them Renegades on the 2nd hand market than anythin else probably every other used one for sale is a Renegade.

T/C musta sold a boatload of'm to folks round here what dint like'm. I know I dont like'm :shake: or them rubber butt pads.

My GPR fits me fine its great offhand a little cramped for bench work, had to shave a good half inch off the football shaped cheek piece from the factory just to get a good cheek weld,

(yah I do that on MLs so my eyeballs lookin from the same place each time fore it goes off)

I had the same experience with a .54 Renegade. It was just too small; i.e., the length of pull too short and sights too low. Worse, I could not get it to shoot accurately with either conical or round ball. Because of the inaccurate shooting, I sold it out of frustration.

I then bought a .54 Lyman GPR. Now there's a shooter! They are amazingly accurate. I love the thing. I even bought the .54 GPP, the little brother, and I love that little thing too!

I like mine. My only complaint is it's a little muzzle heavy, at least my .50 is. The .54 would probably be a better balance.

I like the fit on my TC Hawken rifles. I do have a TC Seneca that the stock is a little too high.

Well folks, I guess you can send the rifles you don't like to me, and I'll dispose of them free of charge.

I try to be a good guy like that.

PM me for my address!
