I just got done converting a Stainless Deerstalker caplock over to a Flint with a 54 CAL Trade Rifle Barrel, and a L@R Replacement Flintlock. I took the blueing off of the barrel and polished it to leave it in the white. I also polished the underrib and pipes. The stainless trim on the Deerstalker was kind of rough and grey, but it looks just like the barrel once I got it buffed on the wheel. The lock took a lot of work to smooth up. Man they come rough!!! I buffed it to be left in the white too. I finished it off with a solid aluminum rod. After I got it assembled, I had to take it outside and see if it would fire. This is my first Flint, so I wasn't sure I could get it to go off. The touch hole is a little far back and high in the pan, BUT, it went off and it went off fast!!!!!!! I am impressed. I think I am hooked too! :redthumb:

I hope to work up a load soon. I did mar up the wood a little around the lock, so I will have to refinsh it, but that way I can darken it a bit anyway. I am not sure what I am going to finsh it with. If you hear a big Wahooo!!!! tomorrow, it means I got to shoot it again!

Congratulations on the First shot. If your flash hole is a bit high that isn't a bad thing, and if it isn't too far back or forward, (which your's must not be) then it is ok too. How large is the flash hole. If it is less than 1/16" you might want to drill it out for more reliable ignition.

Touch hole being high is good...slightly forward or back probably doesn't hurt much really. You definately don't want one that sits low or at the bottom of the pan.
