Likely a two pronged leaf spring inside the action.I wonder what kind of mainspring it has. It needs a trigger guard and a different grip. Just getting rid of that pointed bottom and square it off would help.

I had never seen an underhammer gun I didn't like, until I saw these. To my eyes that is one ugly grip.
I would use the barrel and lock in a different piece of wood!
My old friend in Washington used to make all sorts of Under hammers entire Ide clean them up & engraved them & sell them in the East. One reached NZ .Only ones I have are the Danish & Norwegian govt rifles' Kammer Laders ' Hershall Logan put out a good book on Underhammers ...Ugly as sin!
