I keep reading about all the fun you guys are having shooting and hunting with your smoothbores. Makes me think of getting one for myself. I've been looking at the TOW Northwest trade gun, 36 inch 20 ga. barrel. What would be a good way of attaching a sling to this gun? How do you guys carry your shot?

I have a NorthStar West trade gun. I made a nice sling out of a heavy cotton material with leather ends and leather ties. I tie one end just behind the front site (doesn't block the site) and the other end around the wrist just behind the trigger guard. Works well and I didn't have to attach any other metal attachments to the gun.

This kind of improvised sling strikes me as the most appropriate for these guns and for several other types. Woven straps are available from Track and Dixie among others that can be easily adapted for this use.

Rdillion, Be sure to take a look at the Northwest Guns from North Star West too. www.northstarwest.com They're a little more $$$ but you have your choice of more options. And proper sling attachments, a swivel for the front and a large "button" at the back, are available from North Star.

I use a pice of soft leather the proper length about 2" wide with a slit cut about 2" back from each end which can be formed into a loop which goes around the wrist and the first thimball.I use a small horn or a rawhide ball "bag" with a wooden stop to carry shot.
