I may have posted this years ago but can't remember and can't find it. I presume this is a musket made during the Napoleonic Wars and as a time saving measure the rear barrel band holds everything together. I saw a lock on Czernys Auction several years ago from Dutch East India Company that had a notch taken out of the frozen spring and no forward retaining pin for the lock so I would suspect it is for the same company. Pity that lock was about an inch off in size or I would have gotten it in a heartbeat. The front band is upside down and cut so the sling swivel is now the sight. Pity about the wood damage and trigger guard but one day I'll get to fixing it up. Can anyone identify what type, era? Ever seen one before?

Have you considered much earlier dutch? I have a lock with many transitions on it circa late 1600's after discussing with TRS that is cut away behind the frizzen spring.

I suppose it could be a bit earlier but the type I and 2 both have a pinned barrel and ramrod pipes and this has always been held on with bands. Could be as early as the 1770s I suppose, unless of course the lineage of the Dutch EIC could be entirely different from normal Dutch guns.

I'm thinking this was once an African trade gun. The trade guns to sell were very "Brown Bess Esque" and that looks a bit like a 3rd model bells with some additional brass added.
