Identification of 1863 Zouaves - New to me

So received this beautiful rifle that seems not to have been fired much. Serial number in the mid 25K.

After some research it appears the date is in a box, but mine has no box, but there are symboles to the right, which to me do not appear to be Roman numerals.

Also there is a 55 stamped on the underside of the tang and the underside of the nippel assembly.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Moving this to PERCUSSION because it's an Italian Repro, instead of an antique. I wonder if it's a .54 and not a .58 ???

There is a web page with Italian maker and proof marks. I'm pretty sure the one on the right is for Gardone.

Thanks Dave for the reply. I actually meant the symbols on the left, but I did not know how to edit my original post.

Every reference I looked at the date is on the left and in a box.

Those symbols do not look like Xs and the similar-U next to them just doesn’t make since.

You have a partial, the bottom half, of the date stamp, XX8 for 1972. The Roman numerals were not in a box. The Italian date codes in a box started in 1975 with AA.
