If I'd a had "Ole Heartbreaker" in my hands I'd have made meat for sure. My plan worked great except the deer busted me before I could come to full draw. Had 3 of them within' 15 yards this evening. It can be hard to get a longbow to full draw once they get that close. Even more so when ya got 6 eyes to contend with!

I've got 6 more days till firearms season Nov.22. Ya'll are killin' me with all these tales of sucess. Can't wait till I can spark my flinter on one or three! LOL!

 :redthumb:

yeah but the bow is nicer ....i should be getting my mount back some time in jan..............bob

Oh yea I know I've taken over 70 deer with a sharp stick.
Only 6 with a flintlock.

Most my bowhunting has been done from the ground it's much harder than tree sniping them. My neighbor and friend shoots several every year over a corn pile and from a lofty perch.

That's ok but I treasure one of my bow kills more than all of his. But I have to admit it's legal and very productive.

I'll probably try it myself eventually. Every time I get a tree stand I end up selling them cause I get tired of lugging them around.

Chuck, don't let those tales of success get you down. Look on the bright side, at least you are getting out and seeing deer. I am not getting out at all . Every time I plan on going, someone gets sick or the honeydew list jumps in my way. Oh well rifle season is almost here. Zman

Too bad you couldn't load a patched arrow in good Ole Heartbreaker, be like shooting a ramrod... :hmm: :winking:

Actually, a friend and i tried that about a year ago. We took his single shot T/C .12 ga. New Englander and loaded about 70 gr of powder a wad and then an aluminum shaft braodhead arrow. Weren't real accurate, but the thing went thruogh a pile of 4 tires i had stcked on top of each other and filled with dirt for a rifle backstop. Deflected when it hit the front of the tire and came out the back of the tire and was sticking out with over half the shaft out. Tried it a couple of times just to see if we could get any accuracy with it. No acuraccy, but ruined and lost a few arrows.

Hey MM and Rebel,

A few years ago when I worked in an archery shop an old boy from let's say outlaw country. I won't name any Counties, (Lincoln) came in to buy some arrows. He had one requirement that they fit snuggly down the barrel of his .410 single shot shotgun.

He said he cut off the portion of the shell just above the wadding and stuck the arrow in. Swore he could hit a deer every time at 20 to 40 yards.. Called it his shotbow.

YMH&OS,
Chuck
