SOLD Improved Pedersoli Mortimer Shotgun/Rifle Combination

This is an interesting Pedersoli Mortimer shotgun/rifle combination. The late styled flintlock was modified and improved by Brad Emig of Cabin Creek and features a waterproof pan, external safety, and roller frizzen. The odd Italian screw slot vent was replaced with a Jim Chambers White Lightning flash hole liner. When loaded with 3F the shotgun/rifle offers instant ignition. The breech is properly bedded to allow accurate rifle shooting while still permitting barrel interchangeability. The exceptionally heavy rifled barrel features a two leaf rear sight. The lower leaf will cut the X out of the target at 50 yards and the raised leaf is set to ring steel gongs at 200 yards. The flimsy Italian ramrods have been replaced with threaded hickory rods. The shotgun barrel ramrod features a trumpet shaped head pinned to the tapered rod and threaded for accessories, and the rifle barrel ramrod is threaded with a brass tip. I have primarily used the gun to teach children to shoot flintlock. The external safety is a nice feature to engage when coaching a young shooter. The cylinder bored 13 gauge keyed barrel is chrome lined which makes disassembly and cleanup quick and easy. Price includes both barrels. $2,020.00 plus actual insured shipping. The rifled barrel is .54 caliber, with rear leaf sight and dovetail adjustable front sight.

I love my Mortimer. Mine hasn’t been tuned but it has 30+ years of use. Smooth and lightning fast lock time and ignition. Nice combo you have there.

Surprisingly, I still have this combination and am still using it as a teaching tool. While the smoothbore barrel is cylinder bored, I achieve good results out to 35 yards by regulating the powder/shot combinations. The pheasant on the left was shot at 35 yards, and was dead as lead could make him when he crashed into the ground over 40 yards away. While this shot wasn't any more challenging than shooting trap, the guns reach is quite good. The pheasant on the right was only 27 yards away, but was flying fast from 9 to 3 .It was like shooting skeet, but he dropped like a stone. Perhaps the low price dissuades people from buying the combination, but it performs well for an inexpensive gun and the problems associated with an out of the box gun have all been rectified. While I have nicer fowlers, this one gets the "job done" cost effectively.

For those who asked, the lock, as pictured, is secured by a single bolt, and that bolt passes through a washer inlet into the stock.

If I had not blown my allowed budget for the coming year, I would be first in line for this great combination. The Pedersoli Mortimer rifle/shotgun is most probably the finest reproduction guns on the market.
The faithful reproduction of a British sporting gun is without compare.
If someone wants to strut at the next shoot, or rendevous with the finest...this is it.
With this combination, you have all you need to hunt, the smallest to the larger of game on this continent.
I'm not too sure about griz, though. For one of these beasts, I would prefer a ten shooter, Kind of like a Knox volley shooter, but each barrel with a pull of the trigger. All barrels going off at once.....you might miss.
I have no dog in this fight, but recognize a fine gun, when I see one.

Thank you. Like your insight on this combination, and can personally attest to its suitability for harvesting the smallest game. Having once been overrun by a horde of ravenous garden boars, aka chipmunks, I found the Mortimer settled their hash quietly and effectively. When loaded with 18 grains of 3F and a comparable volume of shot, this load is as quiet as a .22 and much more effectively on scurrying varmints.

Having received so many questions about the combination, please find photo of the rifled barrel, bore and flash hole liner. The original flash hole liner has been replaced with a much faster Jim Chambers liner. I never understood the slotted Italian liners, and find the Chambers liner promotes fast, reliable ignition.
