LOL goex sucks up moisture and turns soupy. If you keep ALL powders closed up in the factory can, powder will last years upon years.

This is about CVA And Douglas barrels. If you cant handle the fact that CVA DID use Douglas barrels on the early model mtn rifles then oh well. I directly asked the CEO of the company for the answers. :thumbsup:

I have an unfinished or even started kit in 45 cal yet to be assembled the boss says I can play with after the kitchen and basement....My best guess is 1976-1978? I got it from a gun shot that got it from an estate....100.00 is this a douglas barrel it says made in the usa.

if its stamped made in USA, its the douglas barrel. These things are selling in the $350 + range depending on caliber. Heck even the spanish made barreled mtn rifles keep raising up in price.

I don't know the facts for sure but I had an old frontier kit from a yard sale -35.00 and it sure was a shooter it said ''made in U.S.A. I always assumed thats what it meant and did not know you could say that and not be so.maybe a small fly by night firm but a large one? anyway IT was a shooter and shot like a amertcan product.

A fellow named Dave Silk was the owner of CVA back when the Mt Rifle was being made, I'm sure the current CEO has no clue what went on 35 yrs ago! If no one really knows it would be easy to say "oh yeah those had douglas barrels"! All anyone has to do is try cutting a dovetail or recrowning a "made in usa" barrels and you will soon find out they are NOT made from the 12L14 steel that douglas or sharon used. I will have to ask Irwin Flagel of Deer Creek at the spring shoot, I know him also! Will keep you posted on what I find out.

now you just being foolish. Just accept that these were douglas made barrels, the CEO has a lot of history on the old guns of the past.

Why not just call deer creek tomorrow? When i bought a 58cal barrel for a mtn rifle i had, i talked to an older gent who said that if the barrels are not marked, they are the douglas made barrels made off the deer creek machine.

I will find out someday! I guess since you don't believe me and I don't believe you we will just have to agree to disagree! All I can say is I was there through the whole building process of the prototype of the Mt Rifle, I was at the NSGA (national sporting goods association) show at the McCormick Place in Chicago in Jan of 1976 as a guest of CVA along with Don Kammerer and there was never any discussion of Douglas barrels or any other barrel company, funny though I do remember a discussion about what constitutes "Made in USA" if the gun was completely made USA why did it have all of the other parts made in Spain? I'm sure it was a marketing ploy and didn't last very long as there was only a year or so of production stamped USA. I realize people want to believe they have something special but the barrels not marked USA shoot just as good as those marked USA. I stand behind what I say until there is 100% proof which I'm certain could be easily proven by any metallurgist checking out the type of steel used, I have machined enough of these barrels to know the difference between soft leaded steel and the steel in the CVA barrels!

Interesting :hmm: I bought a .50 cal barrel from them for the Mtn. Rifle, unmarked except for ".50 cal" when I asked them anbout the origin (hoping they would confirm the Douglas Barrel Myth) I was told "there is no way to know for sure".

I have a CVA Mountain 50cal. and the accuracy is outstanding. It is marked in USA and it is ser. no. 0008433. I have worked allot of maple, but if this gun is maple, it sure appears as if it's mother was a birtch. I have no idea who made the barrel, as there has never been documentation to tell us. It has always been so and so's brother says it was made by Douglas or some sort of thing. The main thing to me is, it is just plain awesome the way it shoots and for the bargain prices they sell for. JMHO. I had always heard they were good shooters and especially the USA made ones, so when I ran across mine 3 yrs. ago. I thought I would give it a try. It is all the others said it was. It is a shooter. The Spain ones may very well be just as good, I don't know as I only have this one CVA. Though the Lyman GPR is a little closer to being PC, if I were looking for a real shooter and that was my only interest, I would buy a USA made CVA.
