What were your ignition problems? I have used RWS musket caps for over 30 years and never had an issue with them. Though I haven't tried them I have heard nothing but praise for the Schutzen caps and have it from a very reliable source that they are hotter than RWS.

The nominal bore is .720" (before rifling) so it's possible the .690 ball is a little too small. Please keep us up to date as you sort things out.

The caps I had were an odd lot that a fellow gave me. They were old, he got them from his father some years a go.
I'll try a little thicker patch.
Worked on the sight and lock today will give it a go tomorrow.
So far it's been great fun.
I called Bob today and told him he did a very fine job and there was an extra tip in the envelope.

Bearingsmith, have you had a chance to test the Bobby Hoyt rifled barrel again. I also have a 1809 potsdam smoothbore barrel that is in nice shape , but cut-down to about 28" . This one I am thinking about asking Bobby Hoyt to rifle it , like your barrel. Any info would be of interest to me.,,,DT . PS is it best to call Bobby early ?

Dusty.
My son hits a 12 inch gong 2 out of 3 times at 100yds and he never missed at 50 yds.
We're still working on sights and trigger.
I call Bob at around 8 am Mountain time. He is great to deal with.
I wouldn't hesitate to have Bob do another barrel for me.

Hi there Mr. Bearingsmith. No I decided to for the moment , leave the 1809 a smoothbore . I ran across a .72 cal. rifled Jaeger . One .72 cal. rifle should be enough for me. Have you been shooting your rifled 1809? ,,DT

Yes Sir , it is the M-1803/41/51 Kongsberg Jaeger listed here in the Percussion section. It has a two leaf flip-up rear sight with four different distance 'V' notch cut into it. Along with a brass screw marker set into the (ridge of the comb) for eye location on the stock, a sort of range finder system. I have duplicated the loads (Cartridges) as described in text written by Oyvind Flatnes,as close as I can to the original service loads. Next I will test it at the ranch range were I can strech it out. Curious to see how close to the sight settings my replica load will hold.,,DT
