I have a Lyman GPR with a POS/Dangerous lock. I got a L&R replacement lock and want to start inletting the lock, but the lock mortise on the stock has been stained by powder residue -- is there anything that I can use (quick/on a budget) to replace lamp soot to mark the inletting areas?

Thanks in advance,
BBurg

Lipstick works. Just use alcohol to take out the lampblack and the lipstick. The lampblack is usually mixed with some kind of cream to make it stick better. Any alcohol will usually dissolve the grease, and help flush away the carbon.
