inletting trigger?

Have question,not sure how far to inlet trigger to have it work properly.Not sure exactly where trigger is suppose line up with the lock for double set trigger to work properly.I read the Mike Brooks tutorial ,doesn't go into to much depth.Hoping someone can help me?

The triggerplate goes flush to the contour of the stock. You have to bend it to get there usually. Then you add to the triggers or remove metal to make them the proper height. As for position, the set trigger screw usually is centered on the sear arm & that should get you to the proper position for both of them to work.

And I will add, Mikes tutorial is great, no doubt about it. However, to build a rifle & do it compentently & to answer much more questions that come to mind when building a rifle, I suggest you buy a builders book. My favorite is Gunsmiths of Grenville County, however Chuck Dixons book is good also as it Recreating the Ky Longrifle.

To me, building a rifle without a book is like building a house without a plan. It may be a house when done but it may fall in on ya to......... :hmm: A good builders book will answer Hundreds of questions that come up.

I have to agree with every thin birddog6 just said. I am just about finished with my build and well next one I will have a book. I also one time tried to add some double set triggers to a gun and they never would work right. Had to set them to even cock the gun. Do not know if you’re replacing or adding to a new gun but be sure you have a tumbler and fly for them and not a plain tumbler for single triggers. That is were I made my mistake years ago.

Thanks,for help.I'm gonna take you're advice and buy a book.I've been winging it so far,and so far been OK ,but I don't want to mess it up. thanks! The books you suggested are they good for the beginner? Or can anyone else make a suggestion of a good book for beginner?

Kbeers, The Gunsmith of Greeneville County is an easy read and easy to understand, IMHO its ML building for dummies like me, you should be able to follow the book and complete your rifle even if you lived in a cave and had no access to help,good luck!

Get The Gunsmiths of Grenville County & get the spiral bound one so it will lay flat on your workbench.

Ditto on the Gunsmith of Greenville, very detailed on trigger and building in general. Also good is the Recreating the American Longrifle. Have both and use both. The Gunsmith is better on the details of inletting, if you want an opinion - more pages for more drawings (I hate instructions because you do really have to read them, the "cartoons" make sure you don't mess it up).
