Hello I have a 5/16 chambers vent liner that I would like to install on my jap made bess. The current vent is is low and to the forward part of the pan.I would like someone to instuct me on the proper way of doing this,I know that I will have to buy a special drill bit and tap.all help and advise is appreciated.rusty

use a center punch and mark the spot where you want the center of the flash hole to be
remove the barrell and breech plug and put the barrell in a vice as level as possible and carefully drill the hole for the liner
useing the 5/16 x 32 tap run the tap all the way into the barrel (make sure you use oil when drilling and tapping)
wash out the barrel with wd-40 and remove any metal shavings
install the vent liner until the liner shoulder is snug with the barrelland with a fine round file off excess liner
remove liner and install breech plug to see if breech plug enters into liner area .
if it does mark the threads with a permanent marker and remove the plug ,carefully notch the breech plug with a round file tapering to the center of the breech plug do this a little at a timeuntil you can seat the liner fully install the breech plug with anti sieze compound then install the liner snug not tight file flush and your done(also use anti sieze on liner threads)

note... you will have to remove the liner and posibly replace it when ever you remove the breech plug

To get your liner where you want it, you may need to get an undersize 2 flute end mill, to get the liner centered. Once where the vent needs to be, go to the Chambers' drill and taps to get it the right size. Another way to get back on center, is to tap the current vent and thread in a grade 3 bolt. Cut this off flush with the barrel sides and then your drill "shouldn't" lead off on you. Easier to do it, then to discribe and type it.
