Installing a rear sight?

I want to install a rear sight on a smoothbore and wood like to know the best way to go about it.Thanks

Assuming you have an octagon to round barrel just put it on the flat just like any other barrel. On a round barrel I don't know.

Here is my rear on a 12 ga fowler, I made the sight.

The principle is the same for a round barrel. You just have to make sure you cut your dovetail "flat" and not go to deep.
