Is this where my liner goes?

Alright, so the vertical line represents where my breech plug ends. The horizontal line is the center of my barrel. Well if my picture was rotated! anyway you guys know what I mean Do I have the liner in the right spot?

Also I sent my stock back for the manafacturers evaluation if they made a mistake. In the meantime should I put in my liner and barrel tennons?

I wouldn't be in a hurry to do anything until you find out about your wood. If you end up having to deal with a new piece, it can throw everything off.

I agree with Swamp Rat. Don't get ahead of yourself.

You have to be sure the vent will line up with the pan.

Well also back to the original question is that where the liner goes? Do I want that whole liner ahead of the plug like that?

Ideally yes, but the position of the vent liner depends upon the position of the pan relative to the barrel. Until you have the barrel in place in the stock and know where the lock is going to go, you don't really know the correct location of the vent liner.

Swampy is right. Don`t do anyhing yet. Installing the touchhole liner is the last thing I do when I have the gun in-the-white. Like that I make sure it will be at the right place toward the final pan location.

Yes.
Don't be worried if the liner touches part of your breech plug when you finally have the barrel and lock in place. It's a common occurence according to Dixon's book and easily remedied. As everyone has said, the liner should be the last thing you do.

Yes, it is easily remedied, but why make a problem ? Leave 1/16" space from the treads intersecting & then you don't have an issue of threads intersecting & not sealing & a place for rust to start.

As for putting in the vent liner & underlugs. No, stop where you are & wait on the stock. You should have sent the barrel & lock with the stock so they can see whole issue.

Get the triggerguard, RR pipes, Entrypipes & buttplate ready to go. Lots of filing & sanding there to do.

Well he didnt tell me to send anything else but the stock so thats why I have the barrel and lock. I took pictures and emailed them to him.

I already prepped all my parts while I waited on my lock vise!

That should be the last thing to do. Should not be done at least until the lock is fully inlet to properly locate it in the pan.

Are you saying to locate the touch hole liner 1/16" ahead of the breech plug, regardless of where the plug and pan align?

If the lock is located correctly relative to the barrel breech then the vent hole should be just forward of the breech face.

It's important to locate the barrel first.. then the lock (pan) relative to the breech face... get it all bolted and pinned together and then locate the vent hole and drill it...

No, I am saying IF you have the barrel in the stock in the correct position to the flashpan center, the edge of the vent liner threads should be aprox 1/16" in front of the breechplug face. That way neither of the threads intersect, thus no place for fouling or rust to hide & start.

True, IF you are not using a preinlet stock.

However, if you are using a preinlet stock as this guy is, then you do the Lock first, then move the barrel to where the vent liner will center on the flashpan top edge, and be in front of the breechplug face. (IMHO)

On a Preinlet stock, you cannot move the lock as the lock is where they put the inlet. However you can adjust the barrel back to get proper vent liner/flashpan alignment.
